Delhi to London by Road Covering 36,800 Kms in 131 Days: This 60-Year-Old Man is Living His Dream of Traveling the World
We all have one or the other travel goals, exploring our dream destinations across the globe at least once in a lifetime. But, how many of us plan-out our travel bucket list and hit the road?
“Age is just a number.” You must have heard of this saying a lot of times. This statement has been proven by the 60-year-old retired businessman Amarjeet Singh. He has completed his road trip from Delhi to London covering 33 countries in 131 days, doing what most people can’t think of. Interesting right?
It all began 40 years ago when he met a couple from Germany who was on a travel spree.
Amarjeet Singh used to run a garment-exporting business in Delhi before the trip. He left his family business of garments exports about three years ago and said that this dream was finally achieved after 40 years.
He got the whole idea of travelling in 1979 when he was 20 years old and met a German couple who were in India for the trip. At that age, he wanted to go to Germany on a bike with his friends, but the idea was shot down by his father. He got free time to travel post-retirement. After a long three months of doing the formalities, getting the necessary permission to Visas, the time finally came for the trip.
He began his journey on 7th July 2018 from New Delhi on his Toyota Fortuner SUV 2013 model and covered 33 countries, more than 150 cities within 131 days and completed the trip in London on 16th December 2018.
“I started from India to Nepal, China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Poland, Liechtenstein, Austria, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia, Slovakia, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Luxembourg, Monaco, France, Netherlands, Denmark and finally reached London,” Singh told the Indiatimes.
Singh had travelled to most of the countries that covered his trip due to his business, but then also he faced some obstacles along the journey.
While recalling his journey, Singh said that one of the most beautiful experience was meeting the German couple, after so many years. There was no contact since 1979 when they first met. So it was an unusual suprise.
This time, everyone in his family including his 80-year old father supported him for the trip.
“A dream, a dream to travel by road and to capture it through the lenses it was a vision before, it’s a reality now. A reality which I wanted to conquer, and I am almost near my goal! Delhi to London, it’s not a trip, it’s a journey, full of fun, excitement, emotions and a lot more which is hard to put in words,” Singh wrote on Instagram.

Singh met several celebrities during his trip including the Hollywood legend Arnold Schwarzenegger who signed his car and made the journey memorable. The car has messages from more than 400 people whom he met across the route.
When asked about how people in foreign countries welcomed a man wearing a turban, he said that he did not face any difficulty due to his religious identity across the journey.
After reaching London, he felt surreal and said to Indiatimes,
“I have been to London many times in the past on business trip. However, this one was special. But after reaching London, we couldn’t somehow believe that we have come to the end of our journey. It still felt unbelievable,”
