Manali is one of the most popular hill-stations in Himachal. It is frequented by Indians and foreigners alike, but there’s something no one will tell you. No one will tell you how terribly crowded Manali is. So last weekend when the summer in Delhi got absolutely unbearable, and my friends wanted to visit Manali, I decided to book a gorgeous property called Glamp Eco, 17km away from the town.
Why you should visit:
Glamp Eco is a cute little house that is tucked away in the secluded mountains of Hamta. Towering over Manali, the property makes for an idyllic abode if you’re looking for an off-beat getaway.
About Glamp Eco:
Glamp Eco is a newly-opened property that will give you a unique vacation experience. This is a traditional Himachali house that has been refurbished into a cozy little home for travellers. Perched on a mountain, the property is surrounded by fields of apple trees and overlooks a lush green valley. The enchanting view of snow-capped peaks all around the property further adds to its charm. The wooden chalet sits unassuming, quaint in its structure and thus, fitting in perfectly with its surrounding. Before you overcome the beauty of its exterior, the interiors of Glamp Eco will leave you in awe.
While a kitchen and two rooms for the staff form the base of the property, the top floor is where all the magic happens. A tiny ladder will take you on the first floor where you will see a beautiful common room, two mud-house rooms and one dormitory. Get ready to be astonished at how stunning the snow mountains look from this floor.
The common room is where you’ll be spending most of your time. Here, walls are replaced by glass windows, making the room a perfect escape. On a sunny winter morning, you can enjoy the sun streaming in from the windows and when it rains, you can admire the dramatic sky from your cozy spot. As the name suggests, you can even interact with other guests here.
As of now, the property offers two types of rooms — private rooms and a dormitory. The private rooms are constructed as mud-houses. The mud walls ensure that the rooms stay warm as well as sound-proof. Equipped with a double-bed, dressing table and a sitting corner, the rooms will give you the peace you need. A private room costs Rs.1500 onwards per night.
The dormitory has 5 beds, out of which, one bed is situated right below the window, making it the best spot in the entire property. The bed overlooks a majestic view that you are sure to love. A bed in the dormitory costs Rs. 500 per night.
Glamp Eco is soon opening geodesic domes that will serve as the highlight of the property. These private domes will be equipped with a double bed, dressing area and a bathroom. Get ready to have a fantastic experience of living in a dome that you are sure to have never seen before!
What else can you do?
When in the pristine laps of Hamta, the idea is to do nothing at all! But if you’re a traveller who loves being active on trips, there’s a lot to do. You can go hiking around Hamta. Simply pick a trail and explore it till you like! The mountains where Glamp Eco is located are not tainted by commercialisation, so you are free to explore the abundant forests around it. You can also head to Sethan Village, located a short walk away from Glamp Eco. Enjoy maggi and tea at one of its cafes or interact with locals. You can even attend a bouldering fest here; if you’re visiting in winter, you can experience staying in an igloo! Hike till the beginning of the Hampta Pass Trek, which is considered to be the most beautiful trek in Himachal. If you want to shop and eat, you can head down to Old Manali to purchase bags, jewellery and other such trinkets. Foodies will absolutely love the various cafes on offer here!
